AI Search & GEO/AEO

How do I get my brand mentioned by ChatGPT?

Short answer

Make sure OAI-SearchBot can crawl your site, publish pages that answer buyers' questions clearly, keep facts about your business consistent everywhere, and earn mentions on sites ChatGPT is likely to retrieve, such as reviews, comparisons and industry publications. No one can guarantee a mention, so track a fixed set of prompts over time.

The full answer

ChatGPT answers in two ways: from what the model learned in training, and, when it searches the web, from pages it retrieves at the time. You can influence the second more directly.

  1. Allow OAI-SearchBot in robots.txt and check that your CDN or firewall doesn't block it. OpenAI says sites that opt out of OAI-SearchBot won't be shown in ChatGPT search answers. GPTBot is a separate crawler that controls training use.
  2. Create pages that answer the questions buyers actually ask, such as comparisons, pricing approach, use cases and alternatives, with the answer stated early.
  3. Make your entity clear: the same company name, description, founder and service list on your site, social profiles and directories.
  4. Earn third-party mentions. Assistants often cite review platforms, industry media, community threads and round-up articles, so being present and accurately described there helps.
  5. Measure. Run the same prompts regularly and record whether you're mentioned, how you're described and who appears instead.

Expect this to take time and to vary. Answers change between sessions, users and wording, so judge progress on trends across many prompts, not on a single screenshot.
