Short answer
No. Google states that advertising with Google won't have any effect on your site's presence in its search results, and that it never accepts money to include or rank sites. Ads and SEO still complement each other: paid campaigns reveal which keywords convert, and appearing in both paid and organic results can win more clicks.
The full answer
Google keeps advertising separate from its organic results. Spending more on Google Ads won't raise your organic rankings, and pausing ads won't lower them. Where the channels do help each other:
- Keyword data: the search terms report shows which queries convert, which helps you choose which organic pages to build or improve.
- Message testing: headlines and offers that win in ads often make good page titles and meta descriptions.
- Landing pages: pages improved for paid conversions also convert organic visitors better.
- Coverage: for important terms, showing in both an ad and an organic result can increase your total share of clicks, although some clicks simply move from organic to paid.
There's also a budget question. If you already rank at the top organically for a term, test whether ads on it add conversions or just buy clicks you would have won anyway. Brand terms are the usual place to run this test, especially when competitors bid on your name.
The Organic Traffic Value Calculator shows what your organic clicks would cost if you had to buy them as ads.
