Nosnippet

Google offers several snippet controls. The nosnippet rule, set in a robots meta tag or X-Robots-Tag header, prevents any text snippet from the page being shown. The max-snippet rule limits snippets to a number of characters. The data-nosnippet HTML attribute excludes specific parts of a page, such as a price table or a member-only passage, while leaving the rest usable.

Google says these same controls apply to its AI features: site owners can use nosnippet, data-nosnippet, max-snippet or noindex to limit how their content appears in AI Overviews and AI Mode. Google also notes that featured snippets appear only if enough text can be shown.

Use them carefully. Blocking snippets usually makes a result less attractive and can remove a page from features that would have sent visitors or built brand visibility. They are most useful for protecting specific paid or sensitive content, not as a blanket response to AI search.
