OAI-AdsBot is OpenAI's crawler for checking the safety of web pages submitted as ads on ChatGPT.

OAI-AdsBot explained

OpenAI lists OAI-AdsBot among its crawlers and describes it as being used to validate the safety of web pages submitted as ads on ChatGPT. When you create a ChatGPT ad pointing to a landing page, this bot is how OpenAI reviews that page.

It is separate from OpenAI's other bots. GPTBot collects potential training data, OAI-SearchBot supports ChatGPT's search features, and ChatGPT-User fetches pages for user requests. Allowing or blocking one doesn't change the others.

Before launching ChatGPT Ads, check that:

  • Your robots.txt doesn't block OAI-AdsBot from landing pages.
  • Firewalls and CDN bot protection don't challenge or block it.
  • Landing pages load fully without requiring logins, pop-ups or scripts that hide content.
  • Landing page content complies with OpenAI's advertising policies.

If ads are rejected or stuck in review, access problems for OAI-AdsBot are one of the first things to rule out.

Your first ChatGPT ad sits in review for days. Your CDN logs show OAI-AdsBot receiving challenge pages from bot protection. Allowing it through lets the landing page be reviewed, and the ad goes live.

Why it matters
