Definition
BOFU content (bottom-of-funnel content) targets people close to buying, with pages such as comparisons, pricing, alternatives and use cases.
BOFU content explained
Marketers often split the buying journey into three stages. Top of funnel (TOFU) content attracts people who are learning about a problem. Middle of funnel (MOFU) content helps them evaluate approaches. Bottom of funnel (BOFU) content helps them choose a specific solution and act.
Typical BOFU pages include:
- Comparison pages: your product versus a named competitor.
- Alternatives pages for people unhappy with a current tool.
- Pricing and plan explanations.
- Use-case and industry pages that show exactly how you fit a buyer's situation.
- Integration pages for tools the buyer already uses.
BOFU keywords usually have lower search volume but much higher intent, so they tend to produce leads and sales sooner than broad educational content. Conversion-focused SEO programs often start here, then build middle and top-of-funnel content to feed future demand.
Example
Your scheduling software has many blog posts about productivity but few sign-ups from search. Publishing “your brand vs a well-known competitor”, “scheduling software for dental clinics” and a clear pricing explainer, all BOFU content, starts bringing in demo requests within the quarter.
Why it matters
BOFU pages are where organic search most directly turns into revenue, and they are the pages AI assistants draw on when asked for recommendations.
