Definition
A landing page is a page built to turn visitors from a specific campaign or search into leads or customers, with one clear goal and call to action.
Landing page explained
Technically, any page where a visitor arrives is a landing page. In marketing, the term usually means a page designed for a particular audience and offer, often for paid ads, email campaigns or high-intent organic searches. Unlike a homepage, which serves many audiences, a landing page focuses on one.
Effective landing pages usually have:
- A headline that matches the ad or search that brought the visitor.
- A clear statement of the offer and who it is for, above the fold.
- Specific benefits and proof, such as reviews, case studies or recognizable clients.
- One primary call to action, repeated where it helps, and few distractions.
- Fast loading on mobile, and a short, working form.
Landing pages should be measured and improved over time. Track conversions per page, test changes to headlines, offers and forms, and build separate pages for audiences with different needs rather than one page for everyone.
Example
Your Google Ads for “emergency boiler repair” send visitors to your homepage, which talks about kitchens and bathrooms. A dedicated landing page with an emergency-repair headline, response times, reviews and a click-to-call button matches their need and turns more clicks into calls.
Why it matters
The landing page is where paid clicks and search visits either become enquiries or are wasted, so it often decides the return on ad spend.
